Match Report
Austin Friars 1st XV vs  Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS), Penrith
On: Wednesday, 09 Dec 2015
Venue: at Home

With cancelled fixtures across the board last weekend, there is only one match to report on and it is this fixture against QEGS where Friars won 65 - 31.

As the score suggests, this was a free flowing entertaining game, played in blustery conditions. Facing the elements in the first half, the Friars boys played some tight rugby which involved the big ball carriers including Cameron Gilchrist, Matthew Tomkins and Will Scott Robson to make crucial gains up the field. Only when we were in the right position, was the ball swiftly released by Angus Irving to our backs, where Matthew Boustead and Hardy Hamilton were able to exploit the gaps in the QEGS defence.

Turning round at half time made a huge difference as the gale force wind was right behind us, making life much easier. Matthew Boustead kicked intelligently, allowing us to launch our attacks deep into enemy territory. Penrith had no answer to Lloyd Clark and Ruaridh McCall's muscular surges and between them they managed to score six tries. Ben Davidson kept the score board ticking over with some excellent conversion kicks.

Multiple changes were made, which inevitably affected our structure and allowed QEGS a brief period of dominance. Nevertheless, this was a comprehensive victory, which finished off a satisfying term for the 1st XV who have now won 10 of their 14 games played so far.

Player of the match for this game was awarded to Cameron Gilchrist who is a committed and enthusiastic leader who sets an excellent example in the way he plays, Well done to all the boys who have represented the 1sts this year.
