The Manchester Grammar School 1st XV vs  Wilmslow High School
On: Saturday, 07 Dec 2013
Venue: at Home

Won 20-10

This win was set up by a really good first half performance. We soaked up the early onslaught by the visitors and then scored 2 excellent tries through James Hampson and Sam Stockman, both coming from slick handling from the backs, positive running by the forwards and quick ball from the breakdowns. At 15-3 at half time we spoke about the fact we had to score next to put the game safe. This we did straight from the kick off, Ben Bianchi produced enough accuracy with the kick that our smallest player, Carwyn Lee, leapt like a salmon to pluck the ball out the air. After a quick ruck, Dom Scott recognised some space down the blind side and fed Lawrence Webber, who bounced off his opposite number and race 30 yards to continue his impressive try scoring exploits.

For the remainder of the second half we struggled to keep possession and put ourselves under huge pressure time and time again. In previous weeks we had panicked and let this sort of lead slip away. This was not going to happen against a local rival, we tackled our hearts out and resisted most things Wilmslow threw at us. We did conceded once but our resilience to protect our lead proved decisive. An excellent win to take into the quarter final of the Lancashire Cup on Wednesday.
