Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School 1st XV vs  Wilmslow High School
On: Saturday, 01 Dec 2018
Venue: Away

Wilmslow away on a wet and windy Saturday morning is always a tough encounter and this was no different. Although MGS led 17-0 two late scores from the hosts probably flattered the score line.

The first half was very attritional playing into a strong breeze and the forwards controlled the set pieces and contact areas well. The backs moved the ball with some purpose in difficult conditions and always seemed to have the edge. A try just before the break gave MGS the lead after an excellent turn over the ball was moved away a couple of passes and Tom Begg finished well in the corner.

The second period was spent mostly camped in the Wilmslow half with the strong wind behind. Ed Kerans scored his first of the season following up a chip kick from Lewis, the bounce of the ball deceiving everyone before Ed timed his dive to perfection. Ollie Hill however scored his 13th of the season hitting a good line off Alfie Meir and crashing over from close range. Sam Frank made the conversion and all looked rosy until the late scores from Wilmslow.

This was another solid performance and this team are really starting to find some form and confidence. Man of the Match this week goes to Alfie Meir who was excellent defensively and thwarted a number of promising attacks from the hosts.
