Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School 1st XV vs  Wilmslow High School
On: Wednesday, 11 Oct 2017
Venue: at Home

A really gritty performance from the boys today in the 2nd round of the National Cup. Wilmslow came in good form with some excellent scalps already this season and MGS were off the back of two defeats.

Mgs started brightly and were soon ahead from the boot of Luke McCreath with a penalty, however a poor period in the middle of the half enabled the visitors to score two tries from an interception and a well worked team try after some sloppy tackling. Mgs came back into the game and scored a well worked try of their own off a lineout which Tomek Pozniak crashed over from short range. Half time score 10-12.

Mgs dominated the second period and with another opportunity from a 5m lineout Wilmslow obviously thought that Mgs would not try the same move again.... how wrong they were as a carbon copy move saw Tomek crash over again to see is lead by 5.

Luke McCreath kicked another penalty to go 2 scores away and although we had some nervous moments in the final 5 minutes after Wilmslow had scored to get within a point some excellent defence and determination enabled to see the boys get over the line.

Well done to the whole squad. It wasn’t pretty but it was a much needed win.

Man of the Match: Tomek Pozniak and Jacob Shovlin
