Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School 1st XV vs  Bishop Heber High School
On: Wednesday, 15 Oct 2014
Venue: Away

As the score line suggests this was a tough day on the road against a very tenacious side that contained a number of accomplished players. The Natwest Cup always offers Mgs the chance to play teams that are not normally on our regular fixture list and Bishop Hebers' narrow pitch and vociferous support made it all the more difficult.

Mgs started brightly and scored on their first venture into the opposition half with Jonny Evans crashing over from short range, Ben Bianchi kicked the conversion and added a penalty for a 10-0 lead. Bishops evened things up with a penalty of their own and a well worked try just after half time after some sustained pressure and this led to a nervous final third of the game.

Another well struck penalty from the Hebers 12 gave the hosts a lead for the first time only for Charlie Pozniak to restore things finishing off some smart interplay down the blind side from the backs. Hebers again kicked a penalty to make the score 17-16 to Mgs with only a few minutes remaining. All we had to do was keep possession and play down the clock..... Instead we kicked the ball away and even gave a soft penalty away within kicking distance which fortunately their scrum half decided to tap and go. After some good defence and the ball finally being kicked off the field the final whistle came to our rescue.

We must try to manage the final stages better and learn how to cope with situations that may arise when not in our hands. Next up another away trip to possibly Mount St Mary's
