Match Report
Bloxham School Junior Colts A XV vs  St Edward's School, Oxford
On: Wednesday, 13 Nov 2013
Venue: at Home

An outstanding day of Cup action as both the Firsts and the Junior Colts marched into the 5th Round with excellent home wins. The Junior Colts won a pulsating encounter with St Edward’s, Oxford 18-17 in a game where the excellent home support, both from pupils and staff, played a massive part in a victory which reversed a 45-7 margin against the same opponents from earlier in the season. Bloxham led 8-7 at half time thanks to a Jake Manning try and a penalty by Jonty Russell-Rayment, but then got themselves into difficulties by taking some wrong options in their own 22. After another penalty to the home side, Teddies scored a converted try and a penalty to lead 17-11 with three minutes to go. Bloxham surged back with sustained forward drives straight from the kick-off, and Will Brown stormed over to put Bloxham one point behind. Jonty Russell-Rayment remained calm and slotted the conversion to win the game 18-17. This was an outstanding victory won through excellent support play and some gutsy tackling against a physical side with strong centres and a powerful front row. One crucial aspect of Bloxham’s victory was Oliver Kilgallon’s captaincy, choosing the right option every time when presented with a chance to kick at goal and inspiring his side to keep going when they fell behind. In a fortnight they will host St Alban’s in the next round, hoping for an even better turnout of home supporters to cheer them on.
