Match Report
Bloxham School 1st XI vs  Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)
On: Wednesday, 01 May 2019
Venue: at Home

Wednesday 1st May saw the school host the annual MCC fixture. This is always one of the highlights of the season and the weather and ground set up the day perfectly.

The MCC batted first on a good pitch and the opening batsmen made the most of some variable bowling. O. Tice and J. Davidson built a good partnership and looked assured at the crease. Some uncharactersitc poor fielding allowed the score to get to 80-0 at lunch. The MCC pushed on well after the break and an excellent run out by Ben SP saw the first wicket fall in the 31st over. Some more excellent batting from O. Tice saw him reach his debut 100* for the MCC and A. Ellaby secured a good 52*. The MCC declared on 248-1.

The Bloxham run chase started with clouds building overhead and some light rain in the air. What is seemingly a tradition with the Bloxham 1st XI we lost our first wicket with the first ball. A nice partnership started to build with Ben S and Toby SP as we reached tea. The rain meant that the MCC were restricted to bowl more spinners and the batsmen took advantage of this with both Ben and Toby reaching 50s. Toby was finally out for 67 with Ben S unbeaten on 77*.

With half an hour to play, the captains met in the middle and shook hands in a fascinating draw. The school ended their innings with 169-2.

It is always a privilage to play the MCC and the team certainly enjoyed the experience of playing a very good standard of cricket.
