Match Report
Guildford Grammar School 1st XI vs  Scotch College
On: Saturday, 15 Jun 2019
Venue: Away

We copped a fair shellacking from a much classier and determined opponent in Scotch last weekend. I think it finished 7-0, but a young side like ours was always due a misstep after making so many significant strides in 2019.

A few lessons to take out of the game.

Firstly, it’s never as bad as it seems. In sport or life. It’s usually never as good either, but finding a good balance between determination and disappointment is important for us.

Secondly, a team without clear, concise and constructive communication does itself no favours when the heat is turned up and everyone starts going internal. Speak up!

Thirdly, basic skills underpin everything we do. It’s back to basics on the track this week as we try and remember how important it is to trap and pass well in hockey.

Lastly, good teams don’t leave things to chance. At the moment we need a fair slice of luck to win games. The hope is one day we don’t need any.

Go guildford!
