1st XV TSS 40 – TGS 12

The team from round one remained the same and Campbell Parata attempted all kicks. Apart from two early surprise misses from penalties, he then regained his usual fine form and kicked three penalties and three conversions.

Max Dowd made a couple of early breaks and Dan Burns combined in one to be tackled just short of the line. Reno Gerrard made a good break – one of a number-to offload to Koen Dovey who then gave a short pass to Max to score in the corner. A number of turn overs came from both teams, which included one by TGS and shortly after Ronan Kapi came in to make a very punishing legal tackle to cause another turnover and a huge roar from the TSS crowd.

There were a number of penalties both ways and TSS seemed to have the better of the game with a number of half breaks. Zane Nonggorr made one of his blockbusting runs and drew the fullback to give Noah Lolesio a nice little flick pass and he scored under the posts and with the conversion, the score became 17-0.

TSS employed a reasonable deep kick with good chasers to get TGS on the back-foot and finally TSS gained a penalty and another three points. After a TSS fumble from the TGS kick-off they finally score in the corner. Another similar deep kick-off and TGS fumble and Dan Burns scoops the ball up and is again tacked just short of the line. Soon after TGS get a penalty and they made a significant beak down the sideline. TSS regained the ball and Egan Siggs made two good half breaks from rucks and was supported strongly by Lachlan Vine. Noah also made a thirty metre break however eventually TGS made a seventy metre break down the sideline and scored under the posts, so 20-12. Tom Taylor made strong tackle on a TGS ball carrier resulting in a turnover and soon after another three point penalty.

Noah made another break, offloaded to Egan to barge another ten metres to be tackled just short of the line however Lachlan gets the ball to dive over under the posts and score. Campbell receives the ball from the kick-off and gains significant ground with a big kick. Spencer Jeans gets the loose ball at the end of the lineout and beats three defenders when running thirty five metres to score in the corner. From the kick off another high ball was returned and Noah made a crunching tackle on the catcher resulting in a turnover. Soon after our lineout five metres from the try line results in a slick forward’s move and Egan gets his deserved try right on fulltime and the score became 40-12.

Coaches points went to Ronan Kapi 1, Egan Siggs 2, Reno Gerrard 3 and a honourable mention to the tight work horse, Tom van der Schyff.
