Match Report

On: Wednesday, 13 Nov 2013
Venue: Away

An exhilarating and tense match that was everything a Cup game should be. King's started strongly, dominating territory and possession with excellent recycling skills at the breakdown. Will Potter put King's ahead with a penalty as the pressure told. The game was always going to be close between these two very evenly matched teams. However, King's were unprepared for a 10 minute Blundell's blitz in which they scored 3 length of the field tries as they tore the defence to shreds. This stung King's into action and James Turpin led the way with an immense display around the field. Breaking from the base of the scrum he got in behind the Blundell's defence. Will Potter then showed his brutally effective pace and devastated Blundell's down the short side, his neat inside pass put Liam Redrup in for a score underneath the posts. King's went to the half time break 19-10 down. The forwards remained magnificent in their control of the ball throughout the second half. From the lineout field position was gained and energy sapping close quarters driving finally sucked the Blundell's defence in. Working the short side again Jack Holmes put in a neat miss pass and Redrup picked up his second try of the game, King's were 19-15 down. In the dying minutes King's pressured the Blundell's lineout into an error inside their half. Again from the scrummage James Turpin caused the damage and the King's forwards controlled the ball through phase after driving phase. Bond Heepkoksong and Rory Smith, second half replacements, kept the momentum going and finally Zach Spiers exploded over the line to score. Will Potter converted with the last play of the game and King's won 22-19 in an incredible game of rugby.
