Match Report
King's College, Taunton Boys - 1s vs  Wellington School
On: Saturday, 12 Jan 2019
Venue: at Home

The boys started the season with a hard-fought victory over Wellington. Everyone played with great determination and the interplay and passing developed well during the match. The first half started with Wellington pressing high and King's initially finding it difficult to clear the ball out of defence. This did allow Harry B and Josh to engineer speedy breaks but also required some stout defending from Milo, Harry G, Ed H-B and Will, who made one excellent goal-line interception. As the match developed, the midfield gained greater control and the introduction of Joss brought a different dynamic to the outletting with his excellent, consistently long aerials. The second half continued with King's gaining increasing territorial position and possession. With 10 minutes remaining Sam C thought he had scored with a crisp shot, however the umpire ruled it out for not being in the D (certainly a close call!). Not long after, a back post deflection off a short-corner by Sam W was stopped on the line by a defender's foot. Alec confidently scored the ensuing penalty flick. There was still time for calm, focused Matt O, making his debut in goal for the 1s, to pull off a couple of excellent saves. He was a close second for MOTM, however that goes to Joss, who was also making his debut and impressed both coaches with his distribution, timing of his tackles and unflappable nature. Overall, a very pleasing first game of the season.
