Match Report
Hymers College 1st XV vs  Pocklington School
On: Saturday, 15 Nov 2014
Venue: at Home

In poor conditions at Hymers College today, the fact that the 1st XV are in the habit of winning was a major factor as they eked out a narrow victory in the final quarter of the game. A draw would probably have been a fair result on the balance of play. Late changes meant that Ed Cranswick moved to hooker and Lyndon Warkup came into the second row, where he made a good contribution.

On a day when attacking ambition was always going to be in short supply, the endeavour of both sides was highly commendable. Hymers probably shaded possession in the first half but fell behind to a James Hanley penalty. Pocklington had much the better of the second half but a resolute home defence managed to keep them at bay. Morgan Faulkner kicked two penalties after the interval to ensure that the home side took the spoils.

In Lewis Wilson and Will Sayer, the visitors had two of the stand-out players on the day, although the all-round contribution of Billy Porter and the steely nerve of Morgan Faulkner are most worthy of mention.

The team now meet John Leggott College (h-2pm) in the Natwest Cup on Wednesday and have the luxury of a weekend off in 7 days time with GSAL occupied with Champions Trophy commitments.
