Match Report
Eltham College 1st XV vs  Colfe's School
On: Saturday, 21 Nov 2009
Venue: at Home

The 1st XV played Colfe's on Saturday in their annual derby against the local rivals. Eltham started the match well and the forwards started to dominate the set plays and it came as no surprise when a catch and drive at a line-out saw Tom Harden score the opening try. A Callum Thurley penalty extended the lead to 8-0. The Colfe's backs always looked threatening when they got the ball and a good run by their winger opened up the Eltham defence and the conversion made the score 8-7 to Eltham at half time.

The two teams had very contrasting styles of play with the Eltham forwards driving the ball and the Colfe's backs trying to run from everywhere. Early in the second half, Eltham extended their lead with a try by Sean Fisher from a driving maul to make the score 13- 7. Eltham looked to be controlling the ball well enough to stop the opposition gaining any momemtum but a strike against the head in a defensive scrum saw Colfe's score a well worked try in the corner. Some poor defensive work from a kick ahead allowed Colfe's to score a third try in quick succession to take the lead by 4 points. Eltham to their credit came back strongly and another driving maul from a line-out saw Sean Fisher score his second try and give Eltham the lead by one point. Some frantic but successful defending in the last few minutes enabled Eltham to hang on to their lead and win the match by the narrowest of margins.
