Eltham College 1st XV vs  Worth School
On: Saturday, 19 Sep 2009
Venue: at Home

The 1st XV were looking to cut out the errors which had cost them dearly in the fixture against Judd last Saturday. The team started positively and it came as no surprise when the Eltham forwards drove the Worth pack back over the line from a line-out with Chris Harden claiming the try. Callum Thurley converted from the touchline to give Eltham a deserved 7 - 0 lead. Both sides failed to make the most of their chances but a penalty to Worth gave a score of 7-3 at half time. Although the Eltham pack had the better of the opposition they were failing to make their dominance and the Worth backs always looked dangerous when they had the ball.

Worth took the lead ten minutes into the second half when they managed to score out wide after some sustained pressure, and with eleven minutes to go they extended their lead to 10 points when they crossed for a try after some poor defending on the blind side of the scrum.

Eltham however showed great determination and good approach play saw Eltham awarded a penalty which they kicked into the corner. From the resulting line-out a catch and drive by the forwards saw Tom Harden score and Callum Thurley converted from the touch line to reduce Worth's lead to 3 points. With only two minutes remaining Eltham were awarded another lineout in the Worth 22m, and the dominant pack drove Worth back, allowing Chris Harden to score his second try to give Eltham a narrow 19-17 victory.
