Match Report
Eltham College 1st XV vs  Wimbledon College
On: Saturday, 26 Sep 2009
Venue: Away

The 1st XV played well on Saturday and were unlucky not to record their second victory of the season against Wimbledon College. Eltham started well and the forwards soon took control of the set plays, driving the pack back at both scrums and line-outs. They were unlucky not to open the scoring but Wimbledon unfortunately took all their chances with only several attacks in the first half resulting in three breakaway tries, all from about 50m out. A late Callum Thurley penalty made the score 17-3 at half time. The second half continued with the Eltham forwards dominating the game and the Wimbledon team defending resolutely against the continual onslaught. The Eltham players were dragged down metres short of the try line on a number of occasions, but eventually Ed Whyte scored from a dropped kick to narrow the score to 17-8. Although Eltham continued the pressure they just could not cross the try line to narrow the score and lost a game which they should have really won.
