Dull,54F, windy. Ground in superb condition.

From the initial moves Hymers had a line out on the Durham 22. A passing move between their fly half and full back then back to fly half, outside centre then to the right wing stretched School but he was tackled out. Gaff)11) received the ball from our line out to make touch back on half way. Hymers throw was not straight and Griffin(10) hoisted the ball high. Hymers were offside and Gaff made touch on the home sides 22.Durham's throw was not straight Hymers kicked Pears(15) caught and countered.Hymers under pressure from Hall(8), Ord(9) and Pears conceded a penalty which went just wide. The drop out was caught by Griffin who weaved his way forward to link with Pears in support. The ball was lost forward in the tackle, Hymers had a scrum followed by a penalty kicked to Durham's 22. A clean catch enabled them to spread the ball wide and score in the corner.

A break on the wing nearly gained another try but they were penalised for going over the top and Gaff kicked to their 10m. line. A clearance was caught by Pears he lofted the ball and followed up and Hymers knocked forward the catch. This gave a scrum to Durham on the Hymers 10m line. Offside at the scrum and penalised Gaff made a finely judged conversion.

School were now getting more possession and took a quick penalty but knocked forward in the line out. From that scrum the ball went to Hymers 13 he evaded several attempted tackles and put down for a try.
Hymers 12 Durham 3. 28 mins.
School had a penalty it was kicked to Hymers 5m. A pick and go by the pack was stopped just short, a penalty at the breakdown gave School another chance but Durham were penalised for holding. Hymers kicked to their 22 Durham won the throw and chipped ahead. Hymers fumbled the catch and it was a scrum to Durham, Hall picked up, passed to Griffin and he to Corcoran(14) who was tackled
into touch. Under pressure Hymers kicked for touch, from the throw Durham renewed their attack with interpassing amongst the forwards this developed into a rolling maul then the ball was released to the backs.A high tackle stopped progress. Gaff took the penalty kick and seemed to have misjudged the wind but as the ball reached the near post it curved in and bounced in.

The teams had been evenly matched save for two defensive mistakes by School leading to Hymers tries. Early in the second half the Hymers scrum half was caught in possession and this led to Durham going blindside but the final pass went forward. Hymers now pushed School back and lofted a garryowen. Pears caught and made touch at half way from the mark. The Hymers throw was stolen and a grubber by Griffin took play to their 22. The next play saw Hymers get to Durham's 22 from a penalty. Their right winger was tackled into touch but an error in defence led to another try.

Hymers caught the drop out but did not release. Penalty to Durham. Gaff kicked it from half way to the 5m line. A great catch by Forbes(5) and the pack drove forward. Anderson(6) touched down.Gaff curled the ball inside for two points more.
Hymers 17 Durham 13. 16 mins.
The outcome was evenly balanced. The restart was caught was caught by Pears who made 25m,Hymers were offside and the penalty took Durham to within 10m of their line. School developed a passing move along their back line but lost the ball in a tackle. In the breakdown that came Hall wrestled the ball free but the chip was collected by their stand off and he made touch on the Durham 5m. Hymers had the ball and spotted a gap as he went clear there was a forward pass and Durham were repreived. Not for long however. Durham won their scrum and Griffin cleared to the 10m. line. A clean catch for Hymers and the scrum half darted toward the mass of forwards then going sideways he sliced across in front of the Durham back linebefore turning inwards for a splendid individual try.

Griffin's drop was caught by Forbes but he was pushed into touch. Then Durham had a scrum on the Hymers 10m. but a forward pass was blown as School opened the defence. Scrapping for the ball the forwards quickly released to Griffin who nearly crossed then the forwards continued their efforts and three times an attacker was
ought down short.

It had been another tough match. Durham had been unable to take advantage of good positions because Hymers closed them down. Durham had run Hymers the closest this season with a nine point difference. Durham had six squad members unavailable on County duty.
The next game is against Sedbergh, away, who are also undefeated this season. The k.o. is 2.15 p.m. Sat. 16/10/10.
