Our juniors started with a tough no score fixture against the eventual tournament winners ACS Cobham. In an end to end a very competitive game King’s created chances but failed to convert whilst Elena Pearce stood strong behind her defensive team mates Katie Beale and Jess Walrond.

Pool match two against St Catherines saw the girls get into their stride with Marie Bukov and Malaika Njema working hard on the wings and Reishma Rao producing a solid performance in midfield. Two goals from Nicole and a half volley in the top right hand corner from Katie produced a deserved 3 – 0 win.

Game three and Lizzie Chetwode grabbed the lead with a close range finish just before the interval but a lapse in concentration allowed Repton to level and the game was tied.

The win and two draws were enough for a place in the cup quarter final where Katie Beale opened the King’s account with a well placed low shot across the keeper and into the far corner followed by Nicole Marlow rattling the crossbar and post three times in a row with powerful strikes.

A swift counter attack left King’s exposed at the back and St Swithens leveled. The final minutes were frantic with chances at both ends but no further scores meant penalties with Nicole finding the bottom right hand corner, and Jess Walrond top left and Elena pulling off a fine save to secure a semi final place.

Loughborough High School provided good opposition but King’s had enough of the game to secure a win but as they pressed forward they were caught by a rare but swift counter attack. As the minutes ticked away King’s pressed hard but failed to find that final finish and it was Loughborough through some excellent defending who reached the final.

Overall the girls played exceptionally well as a team and fought hard through some tough games. Well done to them all.
