Match Report
King's College, Taunton U15A XV vs  Downside School
On: Saturday, 14 Oct 2017
Venue: at Home

After the high of defeating Ivybridge on Thursday it was always going to be a challenge for King's to raise their game to the same heights when both mentally and physically tired. Yet the message was clear, King's needed to keep the momentum building into half term whilst keeping players fit and injury free, both of which were accomplished in a 36-10 win.

Although not firing on all cylinders King's opened up a substantial early lead through excellent line speed putting pressure on a talented Downside 10 and 12, therefore forcing turnovers of which the backline took advantage of by again causing the Downside defence trouble with speed and power. Tries from Blakey, Larkin and Morrall allowed King's to start thinking about protecting and resting players in the second half and if it wasn't for the Downside 15 the score could have been considerably more.

The second half saw Blakey pick up his second try, now playing on the wing, with further scores from the ever increasing in confidence Spurr and the hard working Mathew's. At 36-0 King's made several changes allowing George Gass and Will Chesterman to make their A team debut's for 2017 with Gass instrumental in the final try. Lessons were learnt in defense however when conceding 2 late tries, again good preparation to see how the team react when certain players are not on the field of play.

The unbeaten run is now at 19, but the boys feet are still firmly on the ground with tougher challenges still to come.
