Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School 1st XV vs  Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby
On: Saturday, 23 Sep 2017
Venue: Away

After a really positive start to the season MGS were brought down to earth with a bump with a sloppy performance over on Merseyside. Even though we dominated possession and territory in the first 20 mins it was Merchants that scored first with their only attack. Charles Parker crashed over just before half time and two Luke McCreath's kicks made it 10-7 at the break. The second half started brightly again and with the MGS pack on top at the breakdown and defensively there seemed to be only one winner, but a lack of concentration and composure at crucial times together with some poor decision making enabled the hosts back into the game. 3 tries in quick succession put Merchants 24-10 up. Another pick and go try from Ollie Golding and a good conversion from Luke McCreath gave us a chance to snatch a draw with a couple of mins left, but again a simply mistake from the last play gifted the win to Merchants. A really disappointing loss especially as we did so much good work in between the madness!!

Lots to work on and a chance to put things right on Wednesday when the National cup get under way.
