Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School 1st XV vs  Stockport Grammar School
On: Friday, 15 Sep 2017
Venue: Away

Playing Stockport GS under lights on a Friday evening with a large crowd in attendance is always a great occasion. The venue is Stockport Rugby Club and the very impressive trophy the teams play for is The Ben Stollery Challenge Cup. Mgs are very honoured that SGS decided to choose us to play in this memorial fixture.

The first half was a very mixed performance from both sides as numerous mistakes, knock ons and exceptional defences made attacking play very limited. Luke McCreath produced the only highlights with one wonderful run down the touch line which brought the crowd to their feet beating defenders with an array of dummies and steps, and after another fantastic entry in to the back line from full back to break a couple of tackles and round the SGS scrum half before diving under the posts. A solitary penalty kick was all Stockport could put on the board to make it 7-3 at the break.

Mgs started the second period brightly and were soon 12-3 ahead after a strong lineout drive was pulled down just short of the line only for Elijah Lee to burrow himself over from close range. Although this was the score line at the end of the Match Mgs battled hard and had to defend superbly with Stockport pressing and causing many problems particularly from their strong centres.

A great occasion on and off the pitch and full credit to both sides for their sportsmanship throughout.
