Venue: Away

Wirral Grammar School 1st XV v.s Wilmslow High School 1st XV
10 15

Away at Wirral Grammar always poses a tough challenge and Wilmslow would need to be extremely competitive in order to get a result. The game got off to a physical start as the ruck area offered the opportunity for turnovers for both teams. Wirral were the first to take advantage as after some dogged forward play they were able to score in the corner via one of their wingers. Wilmslow eventually replied again through a winger as Tom Bell was able to go over in the corner, making the half time score 5-5. The second half produced much of the same with set pieces being fiercely contested with neither side gaining the upper hand, however on one lineout in the Wirral 22 Wilmslow were able to secure the ball and drive over for true forwards try. Again the home team were able to equal the scores with another try through the backs; yet Wilmslow were finishing the stronger and after another unconverted try the visitors were able to quite comfortably close the game out. That makes a number of good victories for the Wilmslow 1st team but the fixtures are continuing to get more competitive and therefore the team will need to continue to improve for the remainder of the season.
