Match Report
St Dunstan's College 1st XV vs  King's Rochester
On: Thursday, 13 Sep 2012
Venue: at Home

The game was played on a fine September afternoon givbing excellent playing conditions. The team were forced to make a number of changes due to injuries picked up in the early season matches. Fortunately we won the toss and played up the hill and against a slight breeze. Once again the forwards did well in maintaining possession on numerous drives with Andy Rogers, Sam Cornelius, Tom Drew and Nathaniel Campbell to the fore in the initial contacts. Spaces were created for the backs but some nervous handling mistakes cost us territory, pressure and tries. At last the backs combined well with the forwrads who once again carried close to the opposition line and quick hands by Frank Plummer, and Conrad Clarke put Michael Wilgoss over in the left corner. A lead at half time was welcome. The second half saw the forwards once again putting their opponents under pressure especially in the scrum and at the lineout where we consistency pressured them into mistakes. A missed touch kick was gatherted by jason Lu and moved quickly across the line for Michael Wilgoss to once again score out wide. The team was now playing with more fluidity and Conrad Clarke joined the forwards close to the line to barge over for another try. From a wayward kick off, Toby Fricker set off down the left touch line initially outpacing the cover and then 25 metres out stepped two defenders to go under the posts. The try was converted by Michael Wilgoss. In the final 10 minutes Kings threw the ball around attempting to cross the line but it was thwarted by the determined defence of all involved. So a satisfying outcome and 10 days for our injured players to recover before our next fixture agains BETHS away. Overall a satisfying performance with a definite inprovement in our defensive structure. Still a lot to work on but the palyers should be happy with their progress
