Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U13B vs  Halliford School
On: Saturday, 16 Sep 2017
Venue: at Home

In their first game of the season the U13B's put in a spirited performance, but were defeated 45-12 by a strong Halliford team. Man of the match was Callum Lochhead for his fearless tackling and scoring a try in his debut game for Blue Coat. Will Thompson also put in a fantastic defensive performance.

A new year, and a new team, the Blue Coat U13Bs started the game well with strong running and sturdy defence. However, lapses in defensive organisation allowed Halliford to use space out wide to score the first try, which was followed by a brilliant conversion. Blue Coat rallied together and fought on with determined running from captain Sergio Grannum, Ty Magiya, Edward Philpott and Thomas Aston, and solid defence from Max Head. However, Halliford's continued pressure in attack and defence meant that they went into half-time with a 19-0 lead.

Halliford did not let-up after half-time, but Blue Coat continued to impress at the scrum and the break down, and after conceding first were rewarded with their first try of the game by debutant Callum Lochhead after a great run down the wing. This did not curb Hallifords drive who used their physically larger players to great affect and were able to punch holes in the Blue Coat defence. The Blue Coat boys were not prepared to give-up though, and finished the game with a fantastic individual run and try from Douglas Bruce who scythed through the defence and then showed great pace to sprint half the length of the pitch to score. It was an encouraging first performance from a team that show great promise for the future, and showed faultless determination until the end. The boys will need to focus on the areas that were lacking in training this week, and they will come back stronger next time.
