Match Report
Milton Abbey School Boys-1st XV vs  Warminster School
On: Saturday, 09 Sep 2017
Venue: at Home

The First XV made an outstanding start to the season on Saturday with a convincing 40 points to 7 victory over Warminster. After a tentative start, with both sides testing each other up front MA scored first. Determined defence by Warminster had thwarted MA’s attacks until Gabe Goss found enough space to break through and score the first try. The game continued to be closely contested, but MA retained the ball well, kept to their game plan and soon scored again through Captain Matteo. Scores by Bug Drew and another from Matteo gave the home side a comfortable 20 point lead at half time.

In the second half MA absorbed everything Warminster could throw at them showing great tenacity in defence. The home side made 95% of their tackles and kept their opponents at bay until eventually they scored a try. After this however the visitors were all but spent and Abbey ran in a number of tries including a solo run by Matteo to complete his hatrick; another for Gabe; a fine effort by Sam Wilson and a well deserved try for George Gifford.

We still have plenty to work on especially at line outs and other set pieces, but this was a very encouraging win in a game more keenly contested than the scoreline suggests. In addition to the try scorers, James Farquharson on his senior rugby debut, Ben Schwinge, Seb Des Forges and Harry Chaytor-Norris had great games. A fantastic result - well done to the whole team.
