Match Report
Loretto School 1st XV vs  Robert Gordon's College
On: Wednesday, 15 Jan 2014
Venue: Away

On a drizzly, grey day both teams tried hard to play expansive rugby. RGC exerted early pressure in the scrum and had the lion's share of possession for the opening 20 mins. Loretto's defence held firm and a turn over led to a counter-attack opportunity. Sharp hands from the back line put winger, Greg Smart into space where he ran in the first try from 60m. George Taylor converted. A prolonged spell of possession for Loretto followed and a penalty goal from George Taylor took the score to 10-0. The game began to break up and a kick through from Richard Taylor led to a quickly taken penalty which saw brother George cross the line and convert his own try to take the hallf-time score to 17-0.

The second half began very positively. A superb break started by fly half, Richard Taylor, continued by centre, George Taylor linking with fellow centre Craig Pringle who fed winger Alex Costin to just short of the line. The forwards recycled and George Taylor snuck round the blind side and in under the posts. His conversion took his personal tally to 19pts and the score to 24-0.

Many sides would succumb at this point but RGC showed tremendous spirit and finished the game strongly. Sustained possession and strong driving forward play earned them three well deserved tries. Loretto held out though to secure the victory and take their place in the final.

This truly was a fantastic team effort with an immense forward effort to secure enough ball for the excellent backline to exploit. However, special mention must go to the Morgan twins in the front row who were magnificent in the scrum against a much bigger pack.

Well done boys!
