A Good Response

The 1st XV arrived at Dame Allan's in good spirits with a relaxed atmosphere amongst the lads prior to kick off. Too relaxed it turns out as Dame Allan's came firing out the blocks scoring three tries within the first 10 minutes. This kicked the XV into life and some cracking tackles from Glencorse seemed to galvanise the team. They hung on until just before half time when Dame Allans struck again with a fine individual try from their impressive left wing. 28-0 down at half time.

Playing down the slope in the second half Emmanuel knew they were still in the contest and an early try from Cameron Mather lifted the team to a superb second half performance. Kell and Smith bossed the territory with some pinpoint kicks and the chase and tackling were just as effective. Surging runs from Boyle, Dervishi and Walker kept the pressure on and allowed Smith to dart over for another score. Confidence and belief were now sky high, epitomised by a catch, spin and offload from MVP Aidan Gifford. A sniping run from Kell and perfectly timed pass from Walker put Ore away for a try in the corner. Mather was having another stormer and scorched through the Dame Allan's defence to collect his second try, but unfortunately the conversion cannoned off the upright!. 28-26 with 8 minutes to play. Both teams had chances in the closing minutes and Emmanuel felt aggrieved not to be awarded a penalty with the final play of the game. An excellent comeback that fell agonisingly short- still the team should take plenty of positives into next weeks crucial Natwest Bowl match. Lets get to training on Tuesday night! ABa
