On Monday 2nd July four boys attended the National Prep Schools Athletics meeting at Birmingham's Alexander stadium.
Louis Edmondes for the second year in a row was crowned national champion in the shot put. He won with a throw of 11.93m below his personal best in very wet conditions. He also was well placed in his 100m heat and made the final in which he finished 5th with 13.15.
The 4x100 relay team of Charlie Crawford, Matthew and Louis Edmondes and James Smith ran a fantastic heat, beating out previous best time of 51.40 set at West Surrey and setting the pace with a time of 50.57. The team was very pleased with this given theextra training sessions at Charterhouse track during the week and adapting a new changeover technique.
The final was an opportunity for the team to challenge for the national title. The team had been waiting all day to compete in the U14 boys relay and made a good start but lost momentum through the changeovers. We managed to recover from being in almost 5th position to claiming 3rd place. I am very proud of what they have achieved. The feeling of receiving their medals on the podium in this prestigious event will be a lifelong memory.
