A 6.30 dawn start did not deter the enthusiasm and team spirit of the Enfield & Haringey NYAL squad - who were set and ready to leave on time! No fewer than 12 Enfield Grammar Boys made up the boys team, ranging from current year 7 to year 11.
Year 11 - Michael Acheampong,George Osei,Matt Buckle,Chris Kandu
Year 10 - Kyle Brewer,Tom Rottier
Year 9 - Tope Adeyeye,Clinton Fubara, James Perry
Year 8 - Emmanuel Olubi,Sean Bazanye Lutu
Year 7 - Aaron Martell
Going into the final, with a few missing athletes, meant that the rest of the squad had to pull together and produce their best performances in order to defend their current title and, with no less than 112 medals, the job was done and completed - winning by a massive margin of more than 70 points!
Clubs from all over the Country competed and the challenge was extremely tough
Conditions were favourable and the driving wind and rain conditions had thankfully moved south.
Apart from trailing 3 points behind Edinburgh, after just 6 events, and 11 points behind WSEH at a crucial point during the last third of the match, the youngsters dominated the whole afternoon.
The most spectacular entertainment of the day came from 15 year old man of the match, Chris Kandu, in the M17 high jump. Enjoying the encouragement from the crowd, Chris leapt a massive pb of 2.06m. His coach was speechless and she expressed her great pride of the way her athlete rose to the challenge.
In B15, Reuben Arthur broke two Main Final records in both 100 and 200mtrs whilst Will Grimsey went home to shine his 2 gold medals in HJ and discus, personal bests achieved in both events.
In B15 Pole Vault, Tom Rottier added another gold medal to his 800mtr B string win with a pb grade one leap of 3.20m.
Double gold in B13 75mt hurdles (Sean Bazanye Lutu and Oliver O'Sahon Lubel), B15 1500mt (Petros and Paulos Asgodom), B15 100mt (Reuben Arthur and Damola Akineye), M17 Hammer(Luke Murray and Dominic Palmer Leandre), G15 Pole Vault(Nicole Lewis and Katie Dover), W17 Pole Vault (Emily Bulleid and Jo Willard), B15 Discus (Jess Abanihi and Will Grimsey), W17 Triple Jump (Mary Fasipe and Sharon Kasinga) together with 6 relay wins out of 9, most definitely helped keep E & H as the top Young Athletics track and field club in the country.
A great day and a credit to the club by the way the athletes showed tremendous team spirit and pulled together as a team - a well deserved and earned victory.
A big thank you to all of the loyal parents and officials who have supported the Young Athletes throughout the summer.
The last Track and Field event is the EYAL plate final, being held at Ipswich on 11th September. Good luck to all those involved
