Athletics Junior West Sussex West Championships
On a very dull and rainy day the Yr7 and Yr8 Athletics teams geared up for some very competitive events against 10 other secondary schools in our area. Each team had to compete in the following events:
Track: 100m, 200m, 400m (Yr8 Only), 800m, 1500, & Relay
Field: High Jump, Triple Jump (Yr8 Only), Long Jump, Shot, Discus, & Javelin.
The morning heats went well for both Yr7 & Yr8 with all athletes making their finals. The field events saw some outstanding performances from George Cody (Triple Jump) who came 1st with a jump of 9.76m, and Ted Maddocks (Long Jump) jumping 4.76m to win his event.
The finals were dominated by Bishop Luffa and CHSB who were both fighting for 1st place in the overall points table. Joe Almey ran a lung busting 800m to take second place. Oliver Gibson showed real pace to grab 2nd place in the 200m Final. With field events still taking place in the afternoon, Sam Dean (1.55m) and Andrew Bysouth (1.50m) finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the high jump. Not to be out done Oliver Poole (1.25m) won the Yr7 High Jump competition.
The Track finals were being hampered by the poor conditions, however Charlie Reedman and George Cody showed reals guts and determination to power through in 1st and 2nd in the 400m. The last events of the day were the relays traditionally. The Yr7s won their Relay final, with the Yr8s being outdone by the Bishop Luffa team.
All athletes were a credit to the school and showed good sportsmanship. The overall results saw both Yr7 and Yr8 teams finishing 2nd behind a dominant Bishop Luffa teams.
