A Testing evening!
The final week of this years sailing course saw very testy gusty conditions out on the water for the students final assesments. The course was split into 2 so whilst Alan assessed the pupils for their RYA levels 1 &2 on rigging, launching, sailing a triangular course and recovering the boats, Paul took the other half for a trip out in the Wessex Water Raider 18 keel boat.
The on water assesment was very challenging with a bear away at the first mark changing to a gybe depending on the wind at the time, with strong gusts blowing across the lake to make matters more challenging. The students did very well, testement to the previous weeks of instruction, and there were very few capsizes.
After all had succesfully completed the on water assesment course the groups changed around before heading back in for some welcome chocolate brownie courtesy of one of the parents.
On behalf of the students I would like to thank Alan & Paul for their instruction and patience, Mr Hartley for assisting with boat management and safety boat duties and Mrs Fairhurst & Mrs Waller who provided shore support and a comforting shoulder for those hit by the boom or generally feeling tired after their exploits each week. Also a big thanks to all parents, relatives and friends who came to watch over the last 12 weeks, and who brough a plenty supply of cakes!
As a final treat we all headed to Macdonalds for a "delicious" meal to celebrate the end of the course. Qualifications & certificates will be awarded in school assembly before the end of term.
