Two Christ College pupils have been rewarded with more international honours following some outstanding performances in the Welsh Cross-Country Championships.
Form 2 (Year 8) pupil Issy Morris has had another outstanding season. Following her win in the Powys schools cross country championships (Year 8 & 9) held in Newtown in early February, Issy went on to represent Powys in the Welsh Schools Championships held in Brecon at the end of February. Issy who has another year left in this age group, secured 7th place which helped Powys Schools take the team Bronze overall. As a result of her efforts Issy has been selected to run for Wales in the SIAB Cross-Country International in Scotland at the end of this month. She will also take part in the Mini London Marathon - the last three miles of the London Marathon course - on 22ndApril just before the main event starts.
Issy once again represented East Wales in the McCain Inter Counties Cross Country Challenge Final held in Cofton Park Birmingham on March 10th. The field of over 300 athletes tackled a tough course of 3km, which was shown live on Sky Sports. She finished as the first Welsh athlete home beating the current Welsh Champion and a very impressive 24th place overall.
Issy also took part in the Pentathlon GB South West Championships held at Millfield School last weekend, where impressive performances in both the pool and on the track were good enough to secure first place and qualification for the British Championships to be held in Birmingham later this year. Issy posted a PB time of 1.04 sec for the 100m freestyle swim and more impressive still was her time of 5.01 in the 1500m, which blitzed the opposition and her previous best time by 9 seconds.
Sixth Form pupil Ellie Davies is also another one to watch! Ellie took part in the Welsh Schools Cross-Country Championships, finishing a fantastic 5th position in her very competitive race.
Her brilliant performance earned her a call-up to represent Wales in the Home International Cross Country Championships at Rouken Park, Glasgow on Sunday March 18th in which she finished in 22nd place in the U20s race in a time of 21 mins 53 secs.
Ellie commented: "It was a great experience and it felt great to be part of the Welsh team and to be representing your country! It was a hard and fast race over a 5.3 km course. I was very pleased with my personal time and my position."
Head of Christ College Emma Taylor said: "Issy is a popular and charming member of her year group who does her best in everything, whether it comes easily or not; Ellie has always been a bright, talented and diligent pupil across all disciplines. I really admire the character, discipline and determination of both of these pupils. The whole of Christ College is very proud of their achievements."
