King's U15 girls , a mix of 3rd and 4th form, travelled to Millfield on Wednesday for their Round 2 ESFA National Girls Playstation School’s Cup fixture.

King’s had the perfect start when Abbie Stride’s shot hit the crossbar and Lizzie Chetwode pounced on the rebound to finish from close range in the first few minutes. Lizzie laid claim to a second when she edged to ball over the line after Nicole latched onto a perfect through ball from Kate Beale and beat the keeper in a one on one, to leave King’s in control at the break.

Katie Beale and Reshma Rao dominated the midfield linking well with Malaika Njema and Abbie Stride on the wings, and Grace White, Jess Walrond, Millie Masters and Tresha Kumar were rock solid in defence.

With the very strong wind now at their backs the second half started well when Abbie Stride cut in from the left wing to finish close to the near post. A free kick from wide right was well taken by Jess Walrond beating the defence and allowing Nicole Marlow to half volley into the roof of the net from 8 yards.

With Elena Pearce in clear control of her goal area and sweeping up all long balls Millfield looked unlikely to respond despite their persistent and hard working team.

Some excellent performance by King’s substitutes Olivia Banks, Anastasia Woodard, Matti Mercer, Isabel Ambler and Hannah Johnston were capped by an outstanding performance by Polly Gammon who showed just how much progress can be made with some focussed training when she came off the bench to slot in at right back.

King’s now face…………in Round 3.
