ISFA U18 Girl’s 7 a side Nationals

On Sunday October 8th our senior girls went to the ISFA 7 a side national tournament.

Our seniors started with a pool match against King Alfred school. We applied pressure to the opponents from the moment the starting whistle was blown and produced great play through the defence and midfield that lead to the majority of play being in the opponents' half. We went on to win the game 5-0, with goals from Anna Barzotelli, Kaela-Mei Townson, Beth Barzotelli and two from Abi White.

Our next pool match was against Guildford High School. We had a strong defensive unit at the back with Jess White and Kaela Townson making some strong tackles and stopping any goal scoring opportunities. Lannece Hole made her normal probing runs along the flanks and our midfielders also played some good one-twos that created goal scoring opportunities that saw Beth Barzotelli put some great shots past their keeper. We went on to win the match 2-0, both goals from Beth Barzotelli.

In our last pool match we played against Cheltenham College. This was our toughest pool game yet and meant we had to work hard as a team. With a strong defence and good midfield we were able to prevent them from scoring. They had a talented goalkeeper who stopped many shots; however after a tough match we came out winning this game 1-0, with the only goal coming from Beth Barzotelli.

After winning our group we then went through to the quarterfinals. Our game was against Forest School. From the starting whistle we all played really well with some great tackles from our defence, good crosses from Lannece on the wings and good attacking play from our strikers. The end score in this match was 6-0 with three goals from Abi White, two from Grace Perkins and one from Beth Barzotelli.

We were through to the semi finals, which meant we were playing Ardingly College. With an early goal from Grace Perkins we were up 1-0 up; and we continued to then keep a good formation and play well with Emily Hardwick making some great saves. 1-0 was our winning score. This meant we were through to the finals and would be playing Bedes School.

We knew the final game would be the toughest of the tournament for us. The defence played strong with Jess and Kaela making some great tackles as well as Lannece who was tireless alongside her fellow midfielders in making crucial tackles. Emily made some fantastic saves that stopped Bedes from scoring some goals; however the final score was 3-1 to Bedes. We played well as a team and were definitely deserving to reach the finals.

Thank you to Mr Heayns, Miss Forward and Miss Paul for giving up their Sunday and accompanying us up to Charterhouse!
