Won 2-1

Goal Scorers: Jessica Highton and Ellie Carrow

Player of the match: Lucy MacGillivray for her influence, skills and work rate on the pitch

This was a good tight and competitive game with both teams battling to find a foot hold early. As the King’s side settled, we restricted the Sherborne chances and the defence pressure allowed us to press higher up the field and the King’s press turned over the ball easily and created an number of chances which narrowly missed the target. Ellie Cooper, Hattie Fox and Lucy MacGillivray were influential with picking up the ball in the second line and vision to pick the Sherborne defence but the game finished 0-0 at half time.

The second half, King’s continued to work and their team work was key as Sherborne had a spell of possession but we held strong. When the game looked it may be a stalemate, a moment of magic as Anna Barzotelli brought the ball out of defence, Jess Highton produced a moment of magic as she posted up just into her half to collect the ball, turned and pressed the accelerator to run the half of the pitch through the opposition and fire the ball passed the Sherborne keeper’s near post to take the lead 1-0. Sherborne hit back the almost immediately with a well worked goal but King’s showed their spirit and pilled the pressure onto the Sherborne defence with Ellie Carrow leading the corner press. Ellie and King’s got reward from their pressure as Sherborne turned the ball over to Jess Highton who drove across the top of the circle put a tomahawk shot across the keeper for Ellie Carrow to deflect into the netting in front of the keeper.
