Sport Scholarships
Sport plays a major part in life at Dulwich College. We see it as our duty to enable all students to play sport at the highest level of which they are capable. The school has made a particular success of developing the potential of elite athletes while providing them with a first class academic education.
Sports Scholarships are available for those seeking admission to the College at 13+ and 16+. Bursaries, which are based on financial need, may also be available to academically gifted sportsmen at 11+.
Dulwich is blessed with an outstanding and dedicated team of sports coaches at all levels and across all disciplines. Dulwich boasts 80 sports coaching staff ranging from former international sportsmen to Physical Education and Games specialists and academic staff with impressive sporting pedigrees.
Unusually for a school so close to the centre of London, Dulwich College can boast over 70 acres of fields that provide facilities of the highest quality. There are 12 rugby pitches, 12 football pitches and 10 cricket squares. There are also two artificial hockey pitches along with an athletics track and tennis courts. The indoor facilities are also of a high standard including a six lane 25m swimming pool, eight badminton courts, two basketball courts, three volleyball courts and three squash courts. In recent years the provision for fitness and weight training has developed considerably giving all sportsmen the opportunity to develop this aspect of their performance. The College has its own Boathouse in Putney from which our 130 rowers go on to the Thames to train on a daily basis.
Elite sporting pupils at Dulwich are mentored by the Head of Sports Mentoring. Our aim is to ensure that boys not only work towards their sporting goals, but are encouraged to achieve their academic and broader life goals as well. This scheme is fully supported by the College's pastoral and academic staff.
In addition to a structured PE and Games curriculum the school offers a wide range of co-curricular activities. A full and challenging fixture card allows a competitive Sports programme in rugby, football, hockey, cricket, athletics, tennis, swimming, water polo, basketball, rowing, badminton and squash, as well as access to suitable competition for our fencers and sailors of all abilities, ranging from beginners to those seeking international honours.
Touring is an integral part of the sporting education of the Dulwich boy. The opportunities are considerable and often go beyond sporting boundaries to encompass cultural and charitable enterprises. In recent years the College has travelled to New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Spain, Norway and other destinations as we scan the globe looking for the right itinerary for each of our touring parties.
